Hopped and Bothered; Samuel Adams Gingerbread Stout

Samuel Adams -- Merry Mischief Gingerbread Stout
Alcohol content 9%. Pours a viscous black. My mother commented that it looked like syrup. Very little head, maybe a half inch. The smell is rife with nutmeg, cinnamon and warm cardamon. The taste very strong echoes the Sam Adams Winter Lager. That is, the taste is nearly identical. Molasses. Rich spice. Dark malt. Hints of clove. The mouth feel is sticky. For better or worse, this beer is heavier and a little more complex than the Winter Lager.

Buy if: you want an epic smelling beer.

Overall: excellent aroma is somewhat thwarted by a similar taste to an already established beer.

3 out of 5.
