Lagunitas -- Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute Ale
Alcohol content 7.85%. Surprisingly clear color. Very coppery. Light amber. Smells of pine with a juicy citrus center. Very strong, almost overpowering. The hops are kicked up far more than the Brown Shugga Barleywine.
A bunch of grapefruit and tangerine rind in the sip, with a bit of an almost creamy feeling. Very faint before the hops march on by. Very little malt, but a hint of caramel before it fades to yet more hops.
Buy if: you are so inclined.
Overall: if one favors hops over malts, then look no further. However, I prefer a balance of both and while this kicks ass in the hops, it lacks umph in the malt.
3.5 out of 5.
