Hopped and Bothered; Anchor Christmas Ale

Anchor -- Christmas Ale 2012
Alcohol content 5.5%. The amber color becomes murky and dark when poured. A thin chocolate tan head. Aromas of bready malts. Nutmeg. Sweetness. The first sip is conflicting. The consistency is slightly water, in spite of the pour being thick. The bitterness of the hops comes out strong, leaving a warm sensation on the tongue. The finish is roasty and ends quite dry. Hints of spice, though quite faint.

Buy if: you want to experiment.

Overall: the presentation and taste is stellar, but the watery consistency is off putting. Hate to beat the giblets of a pasty horse, but the addition of more alcohol and spice would've made this far more memorable.

3 out of 5.
