Hopped and Bothered; Allagash Black

Allagash -- Black
Alcohol content 7.5%. The cork pops with vigor. The smell is coffee, a hint of sour yeast, and a dabbling of fruit. The taste is full of bitter cocoa kisses and a surprisingly tangy fruit forwardness. The yeast is a bit over the top, quite puckering.

The texture of the beer is light and barely carbonated. I would've preferred a thicker texture myself. Topping off the finish with a burst of espresso and bitter hops is how this bad boy ends.

Buy if: you can find it. The bottled date was March 16, 2012.

Overall: a unique Belgium dark stout, but the texture is off-balance for me.

3 out of 5.
